The pretty and historic riverside town of Maidenhead lies in the North East of Berkshire, and is located on the River Thames. The town possibly dates back to the Doomsday Book when it was called South Ellington. In 1280 a bridge was erected across the Thames, and the current bridge dates from 1777.
The town is part of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and has a population of around 60,000. It was previously an independent local government borough.
Some of the many facilities this bustling, vibrant town offers is the Nicholsons Shopping Centre. This centre not only boasts a wide range of shops including all the familiar high street names, but also plenty of specialist independent stores. For those who want to escape the hassles of their nine to five routine there is the impressive UCI 10 screen cinema, which has a bar open for pre-screen drinks. There is also the Megabowl and a David Lloyd Fitness Centre for the more energetic. Maidenhead offers many cosmopolitan pubs, restaurants, bars and clubs - some of which are riverside. There is also the scenic River Thames, which you can stroll along or simply enjoy the pleasures of boating on this beautiful stretch of river. Nearby are the towns of Henley-on-Thames and Marlow, which offer a unique experience.
